You can use TikTok to find customers, earn affiliate commissions or make paid content for brands. Posting a video does not automatically earn money, and the features available to an account depend on its country, age and eligibility.
TikTok Shop affiliate
An eligible creator can recommend products and receive a commission on qualifying orders. You do not hold the stock, but you still need to choose products carefully and create useful demonstrations. A cancelled or refunded order can reduce the commission that eventually becomes payable.
Check the product's current commission and your account's eligibility before filming. Show how it works, explain its limits and disclose the commercial relationship. Compare affiliate programs and networks if your audience shops beyond TikTok.
Brand work and video production
A business may pay for a sponsored post on your account or hire you to produce a video for its own advertising. These are different jobs. For production work, your editing and presentation skills may matter more than your follower count.
Agree on the deliverables, revisions, deadline, payment date and usage rights. A brand's right to run your video as an advertisement should be discussed separately from simply posting it once. Keep the agreement and use the appropriate commercial-content disclosure.
LIVE and gifts
TikTok requires creators to meet age and local eligibility conditions to go LIVE. Its published LIVE guidance refers to a local minimum follower requirement, so do not treat one follower count as a universal rule. Gifts and reward withdrawals have their own availability and eligibility conditions.
Gift purchases, Coins, Diamonds and cash rewards are not interchangeable amounts. Use the balance and reward terms shown in your own account. Plan a LIVE session around something useful, such as a demonstration or question session, rather than relying on viewers to send gifts.
Creator Rewards
Creator Rewards replaced the earlier Creativity Program branding. It is available only in eligible regions and has account, age, audience and original-video requirements. A Philippine account should not assume it can earn a payment for views just because a creator in another country can.
Check TikTok Studio for the programs offered to your account. Do not build an income plan around an unannounced Philippine launch or use false location information to apply.
Selling your own products
If you become a seller, you are responsible for stock, fulfilment, returns and customer service. Work out the profit after product costs, platform charges, shipping and refunds. A creator recommending someone else's product has a different role from the shop fulfilling the order.
Start with a product you can demonstrate honestly. Show its size, materials and use, then answer the questions buyers repeatedly ask. Avoid ordering large quantities before you know whether people will buy.
Advertising is an expense
A TikTok Ads account lets an advertiser pay to promote content. Opening one does not make TikTok pay you for watching or posting ads. You earn only if a separate business arrangement pays you for production or your campaign brings profitable sales.
Build a useful channel
- Choose one audience. For example, explain budget cooking tools to people preparing meals at home.
- Make a small series. Answer a different practical question in each video.
- Review the response. Compare watch time, useful comments, product clicks and completed orders.
- Improve one thing. Test a clearer opening, closer demonstration or better explanation.
Use music you have the rights to use, particularly for commercial content. Popular audio is not automatically cleared for a brand advertisement. Do not buy engagement or assume that using a trending hashtag guarantees distribution.
Receiving your earnings
Check the payout settings for the specific feature paying you. Shop affiliate commissions, LIVE rewards and direct brand payments follow different schedules and methods. Do not assume every balance can be withdrawn through GCash or PayPal immediately.
Record gross income, fees, refunds and the amount reaching your account. Put aside money for expenses and review the tax calculators when planning your take-home income. If video production interests you more than growing a channel, compare freelance work for clients.
