About Etsy

Etsy is a marketplace for products that meet its creativity and selling rules. A shop can focus on eligible physical goods or digital designs, but the seller is responsible for creating the listing and delivering the promised item.

What the work involves

For a digital product, test the download and include usable file instructions. For a physical item, price packaging, shipping and replacement risk before listing. Photograph or preview the actual product and avoid using intellectual property you do not have permission to sell.

Worked example · shop margin

₱6,000–₱15,000/month

Suppose an original product leaves ₱300 per sale after materials, packaging, delivery contributions, listing, transaction and payment fees. Selling 20–50 units in a month leaves ₱6,000–₱15,000 before fixed shop costs and tax. The ₱300 margin and sales volume are assumptions. A digital download and a shipped craft need different cost calculations.

A US shop after a magazine feature

Etsy describes how Erin Flett’s shop in Maine made more than US$3,000 in sales in the week of a 2016 magazine feature. That is over ₱187,455 using the 30 September 2026 conversion of ₱62.485 per dollar. This was a publicity-driven sales spike, not weekly profit. The shop had sold only 30 products in its first year, illustrating how long building demand can take.

Your questions about Etsy

Are Etsy sales the same as my profit?

No. Sales are money received from customers before the costs of producing and delivering the order. Subtract materials, packaging, fees, shipping you cover and refunds. Include your working time when deciding whether a product is worth continuing.

Can I sell designs copied from another shop?

No. Create your own work or use material you have the necessary commercial rights to sell. A popular listing can help you understand customer needs, but it does not give you permission to reuse its artwork, photos or wording.

How can I improve a listing?

Use specific search terms, clear dimensions and original photos showing what arrives. For digital items, state file types and that nothing physical is shipped.

Why might a sale not be available for deposit yet?

A completed sale and money available for deposit are different stages. Your payment schedule or an account reserve may delay release. Check the order and payment account together, and avoid committing the full sales amount to new stock before it is available.

How should I work out a minimum selling price?

Add materials, production time, packaging, shipping you absorb and the fees that apply to your listing and payment. Allow for replacements and returns. Compare the remaining profit with the time needed to make and fulfil each order before setting a discount.

What should I improve first when a listing gets few clicks?

Start with the first photo and the beginning of the title, because these are visible in search results. Show the item clearly and make the first words identify what is for sale. Review Etsy’s Search Visibility suggestions for the listing before changing several elements at once.

Which income records should I keep?

Retain shop order reports, refunds, listing and transaction charges, and payout records. Track production materials and shipping separately. Your shop revenue and the amount arriving in your bank are different figures, so reconcile them before preparing tax records.
