About Preply
Preply connects students with tutors for online lessons. Tutors present their subject, teaching style and availability in a profile, while students look for a match for their learning goals.
What the work involves
Choose a specific learner group, such as beginners or people preparing for workplace conversations. Use your introduction to show how a lesson would feel. After meeting a student, propose a practical learning plan with a clear next lesson rather than a vague promise of fluency.
₱937–₱1,562/hour
Preply says English tutors charge US$15–25 per hour on average. At the initial 33% commission, a non-trial hour at those prices leaves roughly ₱628–₱1,047. Forty such paid hours would leave about ₱25,119–₱41,865 before other expenses and tax. Trial lessons earn the tutor nothing, and preparation takes extra time.

Your questions about Preply
Is the trial lesson paid to the tutor?
Preply’s commission on a new student’s trial is 100%, include this in your business planning.
How can I attract students without being the cheapest tutor?
Show a specific learner outcome and who your lessons suit. A clear introduction is more informative than a generic claim of fluency.
How much time should I budget beyond lessons?
Include preparation, messages and administration. Your lesson price applies to booked teaching, not every hour you work.
Should I offer every available time slot?
Choose hours you can reliably attend and leave time for preparation and notes. A full-looking calendar is not useful if you need to cancel lessons. Start with a sustainable schedule, then add hours when you understand demand and your workload.
How can I turn a learner’s goal into a lesson plan?
Ask what the learner needs to do with the language: an interview, everyday conversation or an exam. Choose a short exercise that reveals their current level, then agree on a concrete next step. Keep notes on recurring mistakes and revisit them in later lessons.
Which profile details help students find a suitable tutor?
Complete your specialties, spoken languages and availability carefully. Students use these filters when searching for tutors. Describe the learning goals you can help with so a student can connect your experience to their reason for taking lessons.
Which income records should I keep?
Track paid lessons, platform deductions and withdrawals separately. Keep your lesson records alongside the payment history so you can explain differences between teaching activity and money received. Use those records when reviewing the tax guidance below.
