An employer-backed offer and the correct work-permit basis come first. Provincial licensing and the local housing market can make two apparently similar offers very different.

Work permission

Apply to IRCC with the employer documents. Complete biometrics and any requested medical examination before a decision.

Does every Canadian job need an LMIA?

No. Some employer-specific routes require one and others use an exemption. Ask the employer which route applies. An unexplained promise to arrange papers later is not enough.

Can I apply for an open work permit to look for a job?

Only if you qualify under a specific eligible situation. An open permit is not a general job-search visa available to every overseas applicant.

Will a work permit lead to permanent residence?

Not automatically. Permanent residence has separate programme criteria and selection processes. Assess the temporary job on its own merits rather than paying for a guarantee.

Why compare Winnipeg or Calgary as well as Toronto?
