Main requirement

The employer registers the vacancy and arranges PMLP sponsorship. The contract must satisfy Latvia’s applicable employment and salary conditions.

Work permission

With sponsorship approved, apply through the responsible Latvian representation. Complete residence-card and tax-registration formalities before starting under the approved permission.

Average net salary in Riga

Numbeo’s Riga benchmark is ₱95,600 (EUR 1,349) per month after tax.

Ordinary employment. From 1 April 2026, the required monthly gross pay follows the previous year’s average for the employer’s sector or the applicable sectoral general agreement. Where the sector average exceeds the national average, PMLP specifies a required amount of EUR 1,815. The exact sector must be established before assessing an offer.

EU Blue Card. The published 2026 monthly amounts are EUR 2,723 for the standard route and EUR 2,178 for listed shortage professions. These are different rules from ordinary employment.

Reading an offer. The Riga figure above is a city average after tax. The immigration test uses the applicable gross salary before deductions, so the two amounts must not be compared directly.

Is Latvian required for every job?

Requirements depend on the role. Ask the employer what language is used for instructions, safety training and customers. Learning basic Latvian will also help with daily tasks outside an international office.

Can I work in Germany with a Latvian permit?

A Latvian employment permit is not general permission to work throughout the EU. A move to another country requires checking that country’s employment and residence rules.

Request the address, room occupancy, monthly deduction and utility arrangements. Check how long you can stay if the job ends. Compare that total with renting independently near the workplace.

What costs are easy to overlook in Riga?
