Working in United Arab Emirates

The UAE has established employer-sponsored recruitment that can make the process relatively clear for Filipino applicants with a verified offer. Healthcare, hospitality and specialist business sectors provide areas to research. The main challenge is securing a sound package and the correct licence or permit, rather than simply finding an advert.

Before travelling to United Arab Emirates

Check current DMW and DFA deployment advice before paying or booking.

Fields and recruitment routes

  • Healthcare. Dubai’s healthcare sector is an area to research for qualified applicants; clinical roles require the relevant UAE professional licence.
  • Hospitality and tourism. Hotels and tourism businesses provide a focused employer search. Compare accommodation, meals and transport within the offer.
  • Technology and logistics. These are established investment sectors; target employers needing your particular technical or operational experience.

Major challenges

  • Correct permit process. Mainland, free-zone and domestic-worker arrangements differ. Confirm the authority and employer responsible for your case.
  • Net value of the package. Rent can absorb a large part of an offer without housing support; calculate guaranteed pay and benefits together.
  • Licensing and departure checks. Complete occupation-specific licensing where required and check the current Philippine deployment position before making travel commitments.

Finding a job in United Arab Emirates

Search company career pages and established job boards for the exact role and emirate. When applying through a Philippine agency, match the employer and position to an approved job order. A Dubai office address or a message from a recruiter is not enough to establish a genuine vacancy.

Documents & Requirements

Employer-sponsored private-sector employment

Main requirement

The employer obtains work permission for a signed job offer. Regulated jobs require the relevant UAE professional licence.

Work permission

The employer coordinates the work permit and entry process, followed by medical fitness, Emirates ID and residence formalities.

Main documents

  • Passport copy and colour photograph
  • Official offer signed by employer and worker
  • Academic certificates where the skill category requires them
  • Professional licence for regulated occupations
  • Medical-fitness and identity-enrolment records at the required stage

Free-zone and domestic-worker procedures differ from the standard MOHRE private-sector route. Check current Philippine deployment advice separately.

Staying longer

An ordinary employment residence arrangement depends on its conditions and is not an automatic path to permanent settlement. Ask what happens to residence status, insurance and accommodation if the job ends. Family sponsorship is a separate application with its own requirements.

Remote work

Dubai also has a distinct virtual-work residence route for qualifying overseas employment. It is different from being sponsored for a local UAE job. Local salary figures on this page should not be used as an expected rate for a remote client.

Living costs in Dubai

Dubai has extensive services, but housing and commuting can dominate a modest salary. Compare accommodation near work with a cheaper room farther away, including the actual commute. A shared room costs differently from the private one-bedroom benchmark shown here. Ask who pays the security deposit, utilities and health insurance.

Average net salary in Dubai

Numbeo’s Dubai benchmark is ₱215,100 (AED 12,653) per month after tax.

Emirati and expatriate rules. The AED 6,000 private-sector minimum announced for Emiratis is a nationality-specific rule. It should not be presented as the minimum salary for a Filipino cleaner or other expatriate employee.

Offer and work permit. Compare the approved basic salary, allowances, accommodation and deductions. Ask the employer to confirm the work-permit category and any category-specific requirements.

LIFE AND PROTECTIONS

Rights at work and beyond

Employment protection and freedom in daily life are different issues. The UAE has substantial restrictions on expression and association. Keep copies of your contract, payslips and passport, and know the labour complaint channel for your employer’s jurisdiction. Domestic work follows a separate framework from ordinary private-sector employment.

PESOPAL’S VIEW

Is United Arab Emirates worth considering?

Worth considering when housing, transport and medical cover are clearly included, or when the salary comfortably covers them. The rights environment and current regional advisory check weigh against treating a Dubai offer as an automatic upgrade.

Questions about working in United Arab Emirates

Is a Dubai job offer enough to travel for work?

It is the starting point. You still need the applicable work and entry permission, plus the Philippine departure process. Ask for the permit reference and verify the company before paying for flights.

Should I choose Dubai or Abu Dhabi?

Choose around the actual employer, commute and accommodation package. A lower headline salary with suitable housing can leave you more money than a higher Dubai salary with a long commute and full market rent.

Can I work while visiting the UAE?

A tourist or visit visa does not authorise employment. Wait for the correct work permission rather than accepting a trial shift or cash job.

What should I check in an accommodation offer?

Request the address, room occupancy, transport arrangements, utility charges and photographs. Ask whether you can keep the accommodation during leave and how soon you must leave if employment ends.

Can I use a remote-work visa for a local job?

Treat these as separate routes. A virtual-work arrangement concerns qualifying work outside the UAE. A local employer must arrange the permission appropriate to the UAE role.
