Working in United Kingdom

The UK is a potential destination for qualified healthcare, technology, engineering and education applicants. Sponsorship and occupation eligibility come first. London wages can look attractive in pesos, but rent is a major cost. A regional offer may suit your budget better even when the gross salary is lower.

Jobs to explore

An approved sponsor and the exact eligible occupation matter. Overseas recruitment into care-worker and senior-care-worker roles is not presented here as an open route. Seasonal roles use a separate, time-limited scheme.

Preparing your application

Registered nurses and other health professionals

Check professional registration and the Health and Care Worker route. Registered nursing should not be confused with overseas recruitment into care-worker jobs.

Technology and engineering

Confirm the occupation code, approved sponsor and required pay. A job advert saying remote does not necessarily offer immigration sponsorship.

Teaching

Check recognition and any required professional status for the role and UK nation. School recruitment and visa eligibility are separate checks.

Finding a job in United Kingdom

Use employer career sites and verify the employer against the licensed sponsor register. NHS Jobs is a useful starting point for relevant healthcare vacancies. Ask explicitly whether the particular vacancy offers sponsorship, rather than relying on the employer’s ability to sponsor other roles.

Documents & Requirements

Standard Skilled Worker

Normally the job must pay at least GBP 41,700 a year and the occupation’s going rate, whichever is higher. The sponsor must use the correct occupation code and working hours.

Different salary rules

Some healthcare and education jobs use national pay scales. Eligible discounted and transitional cases have separate tests. A minimum-wage job or a job title alone does not establish sponsorship eligibility.

Check sponsor and occupation

Get a qualifying job offer from an approved sponsor. The role must meet the current occupation rules, not merely resemble a job title on an old list.

Apply with the sponsorship reference

Use the Certificate of Sponsorship and the current visa checklist. Complete the required identity, language and other checks before planning the start date.

Supporting documents

  • Passport
  • Sponsorship reference
  • Qualifications and experience records
  • English-language evidence, if required
  • Financial evidence, if required
  • Health or registration evidence, if required

English, financial, health and professional-registration evidence depends on your route.

Check the official application requirements

Alongside the destination application, complete the Philippine departure requirements for your employment arrangement.

Staying longer

A work visa is temporary permission with conditions. Settlement has separate requirements and rules can change. Build a plan around your current route and eligibility rather than a recruiter’s guaranteed-residency claim.

Remote work

A home-based UK role still needs the appropriate right to work. Serving UK clients while staying in the Philippines is a different arrangement and does not in itself give you permission to move to the UK.

If you want overseas clients while staying at home, compare remote jobs and other ways to earn money online.

Living costs in London

Compare the city and commute, not just a national salary. London’s private rents can leave little room for savings on a modest offer. Council tax, utilities and transport may be separate from rent. Include deposits and the costs of arriving before your first payday.

The saved 11 June 2026 snapshot reports an average monthly net salary of ₱291,500 (GBP 3,525 after tax) in London. This crowd-reported city average is a comparison benchmark, not an expected salary for a Filipino worker or a particular occupation.

Compare your own offer using the amount you will receive after tax, employee contributions and payroll deductions. Housing, transport and meals included by the employer can change how much you keep.

LIFE AND PROTECTIONS

Rights at work and beyond

The UK has a high civil-liberties score and formal workplace protections. Sponsorship can still make losing a job particularly disruptive for a migrant worker. Understand the notice period, complaint process and immigration consequences before assuming you can switch jobs immediately.

PESOPAL’S VIEW

Is United Kingdom worth considering?

Most promising where you have a qualifying sponsored role and a realistic housing budget. Compare locations outside London and distinguish genuine nursing recruitment from outdated care-worker adverts.

How this rating is calculated

Ratings compare political rights and civil liberties with entry preparation. City-average net salary benchmarks are provided for context and do not determine the rating. The strongest weighted score gets 5.0 and every other destination is scored relative to it.

Rights component = 1 + 4 × Freedom House score ÷ 100. Weighted score = (4 × rights component + 3 × entry preparation) ÷ 7. Entry preparation is 3 for employer-led routes with occupation conditions and 2 where language, recognition, selective sponsorship or processing restrictions add substantial preparation. Rating = 5 × weighted score ÷ the highest weighted score, bounded from 1 to 5. This is not an earnings or savings ranking.

Rights component 4.68/5 · Entry preparation 2/5.

Questions about working in United Kingdom

Can I apply from the Philippines for a care-worker visa?

New overseas applications for care workers and senior care workers under the affected route closed in July 2025. Do not confuse those jobs with registered nursing or assume an old care-agency advert still describes an available route.

Does an approved sponsor have to sponsor me?

No. Sponsorship depends on the particular role and offer. Confirm that the vacancy is eligible and that the employer intends to issue the required sponsorship reference.

Is £41,700 the salary needed for every job?

No. It is the standard general threshold, and the occupation going rate can be higher. Specific exceptions and health or education rules can change the calculation.

Should I reject an offer outside London?

Not because of location alone. Compare take-home pay, rent and commuting. A regional hospital or employer may leave more room for savings than a London role with a higher headline salary.

Can a remote job bring me to the UK?

Only if the employment and immigration arrangement supports that move. A remote contract with a UK client does not automatically provide sponsorship or residence rights.

What should a nurse check before accepting?

Clarify registration steps, examination and relocation support, the actual pay band, accommodation terms and any repayment clause. Ask when you move from a preparatory role to the registered position.
